You’ve Got Mail March 14, 2008
Every day I rush to the mailbox only to find piles of catalogs, junk mail addressed to my ex, credit card applications and more bills. It’s generally the same, and yet there is always the hope that something different or special might be there waiting…… and every so often there is. A handwritten note from someone. It is a rare occasion to be sure, kind of like having a $10.00 winning scratch-off ticket.
Maybe I’m weird (fine, I’m weird…) but there is something that really makes me happy about the written word. E-cards are nice, I’m always flattered that someone took the time to think of me, but a handwritten note is like a gift in and of itself. Someone cared enough to take the time to make me feel special for just a moment.
I myself have taken the “easy” way out so many times, sending an email or leaving a voice mail, which is a shame when I remember how impacted I am by a simple handwritten, snail-mail note card.
I’m going to make an effort to write notes more often. I may even send myself one now and then. Afterall, I am supposed to be nurturing my relationship with myself, aren’t I?
I was looking for index cards in my son’s desk the other day and found that he had stashed away all the little notes I wrote to him when he went away to summer camp many years ago.
Maybe I’m not the only weird one……
